The section GenAI in Science will provide a venue for discussion of potential applications of GenAI in scientific research, the advantages and disadvantages of modern approaches to AI use, current cases of successful implementation, and regulatory issues.
Generative Artificial Intelligence (GenAI) has rapidly become an integral part of scientific research, transforming methods of data analysis, modeling complex systems, hypothesis generation, and presentation of new knowledge. The widespread application of artificial intelligence technologies and large language models (LLMs) in science is changing the organization of scientific activity, shortening the time of transfer from fundamental to applied research. This technological breakthrough opens up additional opportunities for accelerating scientific research and reducing its costs, while simultaneously presenting new challenges to the scientific community, e.g., demand for computing power, verified datasets, and quality assessment tools.
Section Overview

Press release

On October 2, 2025, the section "Generative Artificial Intelligence in Science" was held at the All-Russian Institute of Scientific and Technical Information of the Russian Academy of Sciences (VINITI RAS) as part of the International Online Scientific and Practical Conference "Generative Artificial Intelligence in Economic and Social Sectors: PRO&CONTRA 2025".
About 100 people (face-to-face and online) from Russia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan took part in the work of the section.
Among the Russian organizations represented at the conference were: VINITI RAS, Lomonosov Moscow State University, SIC Kurchatov Institute, RANHiGS, A.A. Kharkevich Institute for Information Transmission Problems, FIC Informatics and Management RAS, Central Economic and Mathematical Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, Foundation for Advanced Studies, Institute of Parliamentarism under the Presidential Administration Republic of Kazakhstan, as well as other universities and research centers.
22 people made presentations.
The participants discussed a wide range of issues related to the use of AI in scientific research: the possibilities and limitations of AI when working with scientific and technical information, the quality and reliability of information; the use of AI in chemistry when creating new molecules that can be both medicinal and psychoactive substances; regulation of the use of AI, the synergy of human intelligence and AI, and There is also the practice of using AI by development institutions in different countries.
The most pressing topic is the quality and reliability of information obtained with the help of AI: "Both the quality and reliability of the dataset on which AI is trained, the need for standardization and regulation of AI. Without a doubt, AI accelerates the research process, but is it possible to fully rely on the data obtained? Can AI replace the opinion of the expert community?"
Young scientists actively participated in the event, presenting their own research, among which the work of students and postgraduates on creating an intelligent environment for controlling robots, developing methods for optimizing neural networks and automating research activities stood out.
